Today We will be discussing different varieties of homemade shampoo recipe for dry scalp and more that you can make at home, with different ingredients that your scalp will benefit from. Whereas you know different ingredients have different purposes for the scalp. Now we understand that most of you are not very keen in doing your own shampoos. And that is perfectly fine as long as the shampoos you buy from your local hairdressers or shop will not contain these ingredients below. And here is why.

Home-Made Shampoo Recipe

Firstly we are going to start by showing you how to make a simple plain shampoo recipe. For this you will be needing:

  1. 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil
  2. Half a cup water
  3. Half a cup Castile/vegtable based liquid soap. (We recommend this soap because it is made out of plants oils instead of animal fats such as lard)
  4. Essential Oils are optional but recommended

All you have to do is mix ingredients all together and stir well. When all ingredients are combines together, transfer into a re-cycled shampoo bottle or any other bottle you have. Since it is home-made shampoo two washes will be recommended. One will also notice that home-made shampoo will not lather as the commercial shampoo. This is because in the home – made recipe we do not use cocamidropyl betaine. One can also see the difference in the texturre as the home-made shampoo will not be as thick due to the none usage of sodium chloride.

Stimulating shampoo

Stimulating shampoo will be a great use if you are noticing any unpleasant scalp conditions such as Dandruff or beginning of hair loss. The main ingredients are Tea tree oil and pepper mint. Whereas, Tea tree oil this an anti-fungal agent and can be responsible for infections and irritations such as scratching and inflammation and also dandruff and psoriasis. While peppermint also helps with anti inflammatory. Nevertheless Peppermint is best used for scalp conditions such as dandruff and also very greasy scalp. Peppermint is known to help regulate the PH of your scalp keeping both oily and dry scalp issues to a minimum.

  1. 1/4 cup water
  2. 1/4 cup castile soap
  3. 1/8 teaspoon boiled peppermint or peppermint oil
  4. 1/8 teaspoon tea tree oil
  5. 1/2 a teaspoon vegetable oil

Shine Purpose Shampoo

Apple cider is found to strengthen the hair and improve luster. This is due by lowering the hair and scalp’s PH. It is also known to keep scalp infections and itchiness away. However this shampoo is not recommended to be used often. If you have a tendency of suffering from scalp conditions or itchiness use once a week. Following your own doctor’s advice. However if you newly are suffering from uncontrollable itching you may give this shampoo a go. However, do not use often either. Vinegar’s are a dry source and using too much can lead to dry hair and possibly scalp.

  1. Few Tablespoons of baking soda mixed with water
  2. 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar with three cups water

Rinse first with the baking soda mixture and massage through your scalp. This will help getting rid of the unwanted build up.
Follow by rinsing with the apple cider mixture, leave for 2 minutes and rinse with cold water. It may have a tendency to lighten you hair just a tinge. Both mixtures shall be applied on wet hair.

Moisturizing Shampoo

In this one we will be using aloe vera. Most of you know the very good benefits of the aloe vera. This source is found to be very soothing an healing for the scalp it self. The gel it produces is moisturizing for the hair. One can experiment and add a bit of mashed avocado in the mixture as avocado fats moisturize the hair,great. Aloe vera will penetrate through your hair follicles which will improve the condition of damages or dry hair. Potassium and magnesium in avocado oil will help seal in moisture to the cuticle leaving it looking smooth and shiny.

  1. 1/4 cup water
  2. 1/4 cup castile soap
  3. 1/4 cup aloe vera gel
  4. 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
  5. 1/4 teaspoon avocado oil (fresh or squeezed and also optional)

Hair Growth Shampoo

In this recipe we will be mainly using rosemary. Rosemary promotes hair growth due to its oils stimulating the blood circulations. The herb has other benefits such anti – inflammatory and helps with nourishing the hair follicle. It also unclogs the hair follicle and prevents from dandruff. Whilst adding moisture and also preventing from flaking. We will be using a tinge of tea-tree oil (optional) For the reasons and benefits mentioned earlier. Mix the ingredients together and leave up to 30 minutes. Strain into a shampoo bottle and use as any other normal shampoos.

  1. 1/4 cup water
  2. 1/4 cup catile soap
  3. Half a teaspoon vegetable oil
  4. 3 tablespoons rosemary
  5. 2 teaspoons tea tree oil (Optional)

Coconut Shampoo


Coconut has amazing benefits , this is also very handy to use on kids. Equally important middle school kids and high school. Coconut promotes the scalp health by fighting against lice, insects bites and also dandruff. Besides these benefits it also adds shine and softens the hair. coconut oil or coconut in general prevents from hair breakage and split ends. By eliminating breakage and split ends, it automatically promotes to hair growth.

  1. 1/4 cup water
  2. 1/4 cup catile soap
  3. 1 tablespoons vegetable oil
  4. 3 tablespoons coconut oil

Chamomile Shampoo

Chamomile is best known for stress. Therefore in this area it works the same but with a plus side. Chamomile will tend to calm and relax your scalp while washing and massaging through. Therefore the smell of chamomile will also calm you too. Chamomile will nourish and strengthen the hair follicle promoting thicker and fuller hair. Hence, ingredient will also lighten your hair just a tinge – Makes it best for brunettes however blondes can use it too keeping their hair lighter.

  3. 5 Chamomile teabags or tea leaves
